Sleepy Effects from After Lunch Effects

Why do we feel sleepy after lunch? In fact, it is after food. It is all because of the food digestion process in our body and it takes up a lot of energy from us. This is the reason why we feel sleepy as we are low in energy. In order to prevent this sleepy effects after food, the trick is about food combination. Food combination of carbs and proteins are bad because both required different type of digestion which one is acidic and the other ones are alkaline. As you know, acidic and alkaline will neutralize each other thus it makes our body work even harder to digest the food, and it will take hours.

If you really cannot avoid not eating protein or carbs, then just don’t combine it into 1 meal. You can mix proteins + vegetables or carbs +
vegetables. Today, I was having vegetables only for lunch and to my surprised, I did not feel sleepy at all till the end of the day.

Lets start eat more properly and stay healthy!

Gain Weight but Still Happy

One of my 2018 The New Me Resolution is to stay slim and healthy. Slim in a way that is back to my normal weight based on my height and of course now I am overweight.  In order for me to know my progress, I actually track my weight every end of Sunday night. I have a table with weeks where I write my weight down. From this then I can know whether my strategy is working or not, if not then I will need to change it. See it, very important to track our progress in everything we do. Where are we know and where are we yesterday.

How I Motivate Myself for Exercise

The Technique to Motivate Me for Exercise

After I graduated from Patterns of Excellence (POE) and back to Kuala Lumpur,  I have been on my treadmill for 30 mins daily. I used to drag myself for exercise, keep given excuses like tired, wait for tomorrow and etc. During the POE, one of the exercises is about the 6 aspects of life. Prior to the exercise, health is never one of my priority. To my very surprise, during the exercise, I started to realize Health should be and must be our first priority. We need to be healthy, fit and enough stamina to go after our goals.  Thus, I am using the Pain and Pleasure technique (one of the NLP concept) to motivate myself.

My daily 30 mins exercise last me for 2 months and during the period, I managed to reduce my weight by 2 to 3 kg : ) Then in October 2017, sometimes happened in my family and start to slow down in exercise and eventually stop exercising every day, or it is very casual. Then sometimes only on the treadmill for 10 mins and so on. This year, the NEW ME and one of my goal are to improve my health and get back to shape. For the past 2 weeks, I was doing stretching (light exercise) in the morning, and night time running my treadmill only for 10 minutes. But my weight gain 1 kg for each week, which means by now I am 2kg extra :p

Thus, if I am going to continue my current strategy and expect a different result, it is called insane.  LOL. Since my strategy does not give me the result I wanted, thus from today I have changed my strategy back to 30 mins on the treadmill. And YES I have just done it today. How I motivate myself again, Yes with the Pain and Pleasure technique.

Pain & Pleasure

What make us take action? Basically, it is about Pain and Pleasure. Human will move away from Pain and move towards Pleasure. So the secret is to just associate/link pleasure by exercising and pain by not exercising. Previously, exercise to me is a pain because I rarely exercise, thus every time I exercise and then my body (especially leg) will feel pain and during the workout also I feel tired. Compare to I come back to him, and lay down on my bed to watch Youtube and it give me so much pleasure.  In this case, of course, I will go towards what gives me the pleasure and that is for sure not exercising. : )

Thus, what I did is to create a new association to exercise. I love to watch a movie, and I have set a rule that I can only watch during exercise. This is my new pleasure association to exercise. Pain that I associated by not exercising is my health and I might go to the other side of the world earlier than my family. And to me, the ones that live longer and see the loved ones go away going to be a very painful experience. And I will rather be the ones that go thru the painful experience by live longer than my loved ones.

So for you, if you also keep procrastinating on exercising, start TAKE ACTION NOW and associated Pain and Pleasure on exercising. Cheers!

Sharing Session by Wong Yu Jin

I am fortunate and grateful that I have been given an opportunity to attend a 3 hours Heath Booster talk by Wong Ju Jin. Below are what I learned from him:

  • How to counter after lunch sleepy effect.
    The reason why most of us feel sleepy after lunch is due to the sugar level in our body. If we eat a lot of carbs, something sweet (sugar), etc then that will increase the sugar level in our body. And once it exceeded the maximum level which the body will see as a danger, then it will produce insulin to reduce the sugar. It is the sudden drop in sugar level that caused us to feel sleepy.
    • Diet: Maybe half an hour before lunch, eat an apple. This will make us a little filling, so during lunch, we can eat less. And eat till you feel 70% full, then can stop. But then, as we eat less and it will make us feel hungry after a few hours. Then can eat other healthier snacks like fruits, nuts and etc to replenish the energy.
    • Non-Diet: It is actually the patterns that we have formed in our non-conscious mind, once we get back to the office with nice air-conditioning blowing to us, then we will start to feel sleepy. Thus, we need to break the pattern, one of the ways is to stand up, do some stretching or walk around. Then if feel sleepy again, then do it again. Another way is to go to somewhere where got sun, this will tell the body that it is day time not yet a sleeping time.
